L’Oreal Paris India, in a brand blog dated 16 October 2026, lays out a Diwali makeup look in 16 steps across four stages: skin prep, face, eyes and lips. It recommends double-cleansing, priming and setting powder for an all-day base, and finishing with 4 to 6 mists of setting spray held 8 to 10 inches from the face.
This guide follows that order and explains each step in plain language. Because the source is a brand blog, its product names are L’Oreal’s own, and I leave them out and keep to techniques. Other brands work equally well. Diwali is on Sunday, 8 November 2026 in India, so you have time to practise. Patch-test any new product on a small area first.
Step 1: Prep Your Skin
The guide starts before makeup. It suggests double-cleansing morning and night, with micellar water followed by a gentle face wash, and exfoliating 2 to 3 times a week. Then apply a serum and a moisturizer suited to your skin type.
| Step | What to do |
|---|---|
| 1 | Cleanse with micellar water, then a gentle face wash |
| 2 | Exfoliate 2 to 3 times a week, not on the day if skin is sensitive |
| 3 | Apply serum |
| 4 | Apply moisturizer for your skin type |

Step 2: Build the Base
Apply a primer to blur pores and extend wear. Match foundation to your skin tone and undertone, dot it on and blend, adding more only if needed. Conceal dark spots, marks and tired-looking eyes, using a concealer one shade lighter for brightening and a waterproof formula. Set with pressed powder to control oil and sweat.
| Step | Technique (L’Oreal Paris guide) |
|---|---|
| Prime | Blur pores, even out texture, extend wear |
| Foundation | Match shade and undertone; dot and blend; add only if needed |
| Conceal | One shade lighter to brighten; waterproof formula |
| Set | Pressed powder to control oil and sweat |
Step 3: Blush and Highlight
The guide applies matte blush to the apples of the cheeks and blends toward the temples, using the leftover on the bridge of the nose and chin. Highlighter goes on the nose bridge, cupid’s bow, cheekbones and brow bone.
| Product | Where it goes |
|---|---|
| Blush | Apples of the cheeks, blended toward the temples; a little on the nose bridge and chin |
| Highlighter | Nose bridge, cupid’s bow, cheekbones, brow bone |
Step 4: Eyes
Fill in brows with natural, defined strokes, apply eyeshadow by blending shades, then draw a sharp line and add a wing or cat-eye. A smoky look is an alternative. Use waterproof liner for all-day wear, line the lower waterline with a smudge-proof kajal and apply mascara from root to tip.
| Step | Technique |
|---|---|
| Brows | Natural, defined strokes |
| Lids | Mix shades from a palette |
| Liner | Sharp line, wing or cat-eye; waterproof for all-day wear |
| Waterline | Smudge-proof kajal |
| Lashes | Mascara from root to tip |
Aza Fashions also suggests heavier eye makeup with a lighter face for festive outfits, which fits this step well.
Step 5: Lips and Setting Spray
Exfoliate and hydrate lips with a balm, then choose a lipstick texture and shade to suit your mood and outfit. Finish by holding setting spray 8 to 10 inches from your face and misting 4 to 6 times in X and T motions, keeping it away from eyes and lips.
