Black Friday vs Cyber Monday: Where the Better Deals Are

Key takeaways

  • Adobe: Cyber Monday 2025 hit 14.25 billion dollars online, Black Friday 11.8 billion dollars and Thanksgiving Day 6.4 billion dollars.
  • Peak Cyber Monday discounts in 2025: electronics 31 percent, toys 28 percent, apparel 25 percent, computers 23 percent.
  • Adobe's discounts through the first week of December were lower, for example electronics 19 percent.
  • NBC Select: 20 to 30 percent off is now a good deal; apparel, beauty and furniture may drop more in December.
  • Adobe's data is US online only; it does not tell you which day is cheaper for a specific item.

Adobe, which measures US online transactions across 1 trillion visits to retail sites, reported on 2 December 2025 that Cyber Monday reached 14.25 billion dollars in online spending, up 7.1 percent, while Black Friday reached 11.8 billion dollars, up 9.1 percent. Cyber Week as a whole totalled 44.2 billion dollars.

So which day has the better deals? Adobe’s discount data gives a partial answer by category, and NBC Select adds expert views on what a good discount means now. This guide uses both. The figures are for US online sales in 2025 and describe averages, not guarantees. In 2026, Thanksgiving is on Thursday, 26 November, Black Friday on 27 November and Cyber Monday on 30 November.

What Adobe Measured in 2025

Adobe’s release gives US online spending for the main shopping days. Cyber Monday was the biggest single day, and buy now, pay later (BNPL) use on Cyber Monday reached 1.03 billion dollars.

Day or period (2025)US online spend (Adobe)Change
Thanksgiving Day6.4 billion dollarsUp 5.3%
Black Friday11.8 billion dollarsUp 9.1%
Cyber Monday14.25 billion dollarsUp 7.1%
Cyber Week total44.2 billion dollarsUp 7.7%

Mobile made up 57.5 percent of Cyber Monday spending, according to Adobe.

Peak Discounts by Category

Adobe also reports the peak discount off listed price on Cyber Monday, and average discounts through the first week of December. The gap shows that the best prices are brief.

These are Adobe’s 2025 US online figures, so they show what happened last year, not what will happen in 2026.

Which Day Wins for What

Adobe’s data does not rank the two days by discount, so any rule is a rough guide. Our own reading: Cyber Monday’s numbers are strongest for electronics, toys and computers. NBC Select notes that apparel, beauty and furniture may drop more in December, and that mattresses and large appliances are best bought around Presidents’ Day.

What a Good Discount Looks Like Now

NBC Select, quoting expert Guzik, says 20 to 30 percent off is now a good deal where 40 to 50 percent was once expected, as tariffs lead retailers to absorb costs and discount less. It also says inventory may be limited, so items could sell out faster. Rakuten’s Ashley Feinstein Gerstley cited tech discounts of about 30 to 50 percent, so the range depends on the product.

A Plan for Both Days

NBC Select advises making a ranked list with a buffer, signing up for alerts, stacking savings through rewards cards, cashback extensions and promo codes, and watching shipping fees. Compare prices with a tracker such as CamelCamelCamel, Honey or Keepa and check return and price-match policies. To keep spending in check, use the 50/30/20 budget rule.

FAQs

Is Black Friday or Cyber Monday better for deals?

Adobe’s 2025 data does not rank the two days by discount. It shows Cyber Monday had the highest spending at 14.25 billion dollars and peak discounts of 31 percent on electronics. Best prices depend on the item, so compare the price history for what you want. Our own addition: since the biggest cuts are often short-lived, write your target price for each item beforehand, and buy as soon as the price reaches it.

How much was spent on Black Friday and Cyber Monday in 2025?

Adobe reported 11.8 billion dollars in US online spending on Black Friday and 14.25 billion dollars on Cyber Monday. Thanksgiving Day added 6.4 billion dollars and Cyber Week totalled 44.2 billion dollars. These figures cover online sales in the United States only. Remember that these are online sales in the United States, so figures for India or other countries may differ, and they measure spending rather than how good the average deal was.

What discounts did Adobe report for Cyber Monday?

Adobe reported peak discounts off listed price of 31 percent for electronics, 28 percent for toys, 25 percent for apparel, 23 percent for computers and 22 percent for televisions. Through the first week of December, the averages were lower, for example 19 percent for electronics. The averages hide a lot of variation, so treat each percentage as a typical figure for the category and compare the specific model you want against its own history.

What is a good discount in 2026?

NBC Select quotes expert Guzik saying 20 to 30 percent off is now a good deal, where 40 to 50 percent was once expected. Rakuten’s Ashley Feinstein Gerstley cited tech discounts of about 30 to 50 percent. Treat these as rough guides and check each item’s price history. The wide range is the point: a good discount on a headphone model is not the same as a good one on a television, so judge each product on its own.

When are Black Friday and Cyber Monday in 2026?

Thanksgiving is on Thursday, 26 November 2026, so Black Friday falls on Friday, 27 November and Cyber Monday on Monday, 30 November. Many retailers begin sales earlier in November, so watch for deals before these dates and compare them. Many stores also start deals earlier in November and extend them past Cyber Monday, so the exact dates matter less than the price you pay on the day you buy.

Should I wait for December?

Sometimes. NBC Select says apparel, beauty and furniture may drop more in December, and that mattresses and large appliances are best bought around Presidents’ Day. But popular tech can sell out, so buy promptly if you see a price you wanted. Our own addition: if you cannot wait, buy the one thing you need at a good price and leave the rest of the list for the next sale.

Pick Your Day Item by Item

The better day depends on what you are buying, not on the calendar. Decide your list first, then watch the price of each item.

Between now and 27 November, record today’s price for each item. On 30 November, check again and buy only where the discount beats what you saw earlier.
